Relax and unwind in heavenly hot tub
Border Telegraph - January 31st 2007
Have you had a hard day?
If your feeling jaded, washed out or in urgent need of TLC, there's an ideal place to unwind.
Just relax in a warm, bubbling home spa and allow water jets to ease taut muscles and unstiffen weary bones. The luxurious hot tub experience is now on tap in Newtown St Boswells. Advanced Arctic Spa's moved into a unit at Langlands Mill in November and created a spacious showroom to present top quality hot tubs manufactured in North America.
The business is owned by Matt Herbert and Kevin Higginson, who began trading in North Berwick at the beginning of last year.
Kevin said: "We were selling 80% of our spa's to the Borders, so we thought it would be a good idea to have a base here."
Arctic Spa's are designed and built in Edmonton Canada-built to last.
They are ergonomically designed to fit the contours of the body, providing lumber support and maximising comfort, particularly important for people who have weight related problems.
The water jets help control the joint inflammation and pain associated with arthritis and can ease many sports injuries.
Canada's harsh winter climate has informed the construction process, leading to the creation of an incredibly robust product.
The tough acrylic shell of the hot tub has a lifetime warranty and is thick enough to support several tons of water and people without the need of reinforcement.
The insulation system is designed to minimise heat loss and maximise energy efficiency. Arctic Spa's heater and pumps are housed inside the insulated area to maximise energy efficiency, shield against mechanical noise and protect equipment from freezing.
Each hot tub shell is cradled in a sturdy red cedar cabinet, which has eight access doors to ease installation and upgrading work.
Although spa's are designed to contain heated water around the clock, the energy costs amount to about £3 per week.
While the cost of an Arctic Spa ranges from £3199 to £12500, the local showroom features 2006 stock at reduced prices until the end of February.
According to Kevin, spas are mainly for external use and, as such, are ideal for garden lovers.
He said "I was speaking to one woman and she told me spas didn't get you into the garden. "I just asked her if she had been in her garden at seven in the morning or nine at night – because I was."
"That's the beauty of a spa: you can use it throughout the winter. "It's a fabulous place for sitting with the family , relaxing and having a chat. "A spa is the new kitchen table."
Hot tubs are very popular in North America, where the market is eight to 10 years ahead of most countries. Scotland may be lagging behind the rest of the UK by a couple of years, but it's catching up fast due to the increasing popularity of the spa culture.
Customers are invited to visit the largest indoor spa showroom in Scotland to see the superb range, from two seaters to 10 seaters, and collect a promotional DVD or colour brochure.
Advanced Arctic Spa's even has a private Wet Test Centre to allow prospective buyers to sample their spa of choice.
